Obituary for Mary Evelyn Tumlin Crittenden
Mary Evelyn Tumlin Crittenden was born November 17, 1922, in Paulding County, Georgia, and went to be with the Lord February 10, 2021 at her home in Marietta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Waldo Crittenden, to whom she was married for over 62 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bob (Beth) Crittenden of Montgomery, Alabama, two grandchildren, AnnaBeth Crittenden, and Eric Crittenden, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends whom she held dear.
Evelyn was a graduate of Acworth High School and Greenleaf Business College. She worked as executive secretary for Atlanta architect R. Kennon Perry while at Greenleaf. She was also employed as a clerical assistant by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Bell Aircraft Company, and the Veterans Administration. She served as an administrative assistant for nine years at Marietta First Baptist Church, from which she retired in 1986.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Phebean Sunday School Class and in other leadership positions, including Coordinator of the Adult Division of Sunday School, as well as Director and Treasurer of an Adult Sunday School Department. She also served as a member of the Nominating, Finance, and Food Service Committees.
She was active in many aspects of the community as a member of the American Business Women's Association, Iris Garden Club, National Association of Federal Retired Employees, and assisting her husband in delivering surplus food to area residents on a quarterly basis through the Cobb County Resource Department.
Visitation will be at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta February 20 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. A graveside service will be at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta on February 20 at 2:00 p.m.
