Mary-Elizabeth (Walsh) Gleason, 94, of Bedford, NH, died December 12, 2021.
Born in Billerica, Massachusetts and almost a life-long resident of Bedford, New Hampshire at Wendover Way; she was active in the community and had many friends in town.
Liz went to high school in Nashua, New Hampshire - her yearbook entry stated that she intended to be "a missionary in Africa" (that never happened!) - and after she graduated, she spent summers up in Boothbay, Maine waiting tables and "sailing with the dolphins alongside." A tale that still needs to be verified.
She met her husband, James Benedict Gleason, Jr. at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire during the summer after The Second World War, and they became one of the most loving - and debative - couples around. She "Lit up the Room", as her husband would say; and when the love of her life passed, she never, ever considered a future with anybody else.
Earlier on she was a part-time homemaker, worked for "the Telephone Company", and later worked in the banking business, sometimes at her husband's bank.
Later in life she traveled the world - in Rome she met The Pope himself - and drove herself and best friend through the fens and along the cliffs of the Emerald Isle.
When she turned the age of seventy, she traversed France, - visited the Monte Carlo Casino - and in Paris, counted aloud every step that she took from the Seine to Place Vendome.
Her last years were spent in Jackson, NH with her son, her daughter-in-law, Susan, and a couple of cats. She loved dozing with the older cat; walking to the covered bridge there, and truly enjoyed sitting in the sun on the veranda.
She is survived by her son, James B. Gleason III, and an abundance of nieces and nephews - all of whom adored her.
