Mary Lou Duckworth, age 87 of Grand Junction, CO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Mary Lou was born on July 17, 1934 in Buffalo, MO. She was one of six children. Her parents, Dee Neill and Gladys Gregg Neill, owned and operated a dairy farm. Mary Lou grew up helping out on the farm, and upon high school graduation attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. It was on a blind date that Mary met her future husband, and on August 18, 1959, she married Thomas Henry Duckworth. The newlyweds moved to Denver, CO where Mary Lou taught elementary physical education in the Denver Public School System. The couple made their home in Wheat Ridge, CO. In 1965, Mary stopped teaching to be a homemaker and mother. She later returned to work, serving as a cashier at King Soopers until her retirement in the late 1990's. Mary Lou was a member of Redlands Community Church in Grand Junction and a previous member of Lakewood Church of the Nazarene, Lakewood, CO and Beth Eden Baptist Church, Wheat Ridge, CO.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Tom, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, an infant son Mitchell Dee Duckworth, and her son-in-law Tom Meyer.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Meyer of San Antonio, TX and Sonya Lucia (David) of Monument, CO, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
A viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Grand Junction, CO on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 5-7pm. Funeral services will take place in the mortuary chapel on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11am. Interment will follow in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 1pm.
