Mary Mildred Davis, 90, passed away on Dec. 11, 2021 at The Hoosier Village Retirement Center in Zionsville.
She was born January 28, 1931 in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Dorval Edgar and Mary Mildred (Allred) Beaman.
Mary was married to Norman Allen Davis for 44 years. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1994.
Mary grew up in Zionsville, and was a Zionsville High School Cheerleader, as well as Editor of the yearbook, Sports Chairperson of the Girl's Athletic Association, and a member of the Singing Lyres and Chorus. During that time, she also worked at several different Zionsville businesses, including Ogborn's drug store, Cruse's 5 and 10 Cent Store, the Zionsville theatre, and the Corner Cafe.
She met her husband, Norman, in high school and they were married on November 26, 1950. They moved to the Davis family farm in Union Township. When Norman went into the U.S. Army and was sent to Fort Hood, Texas, Mary went there too, to be with him. After his enlistment was over, they returned to the family farm. After raising her two children, Mary went to work for the Shell Pipeline Company Corporate Office on Michigan Road, as a typist, switchboard operator, and defensive driving instructor, working her way up to Supervisor of office services. She was the first woman to reach that Company's position. She retired from Shell in the mid 1980's after about 20 years of service. Mary was interviewed by Ruth Lyons for a series of articles about her life that was published in the Zionsville Times in 2008. She was a member of the Little Eagle Creek Church, and in the past had been the organist and pianist, as well as being in the Choir.
Mary enjoyed the company of her family, especially with her Grandson, Brian. She was a very good cook, and an excellent bridge player, who enjoyed playing bridge for many years with her friends. She also enjoyed the company of her companion, Robert "Bob" Adams, who passed away in 2018.
Her survivors include: son, Daniel and his wife, Deborah (Holmes) Davis; daughter, Amy (Davis) Waddell and her husband, Rich; and grandson, Brian Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; her brothers, Scott and Rex Beaman; her nephew and niece, Scotty Beaman and Monica Sue Spangler.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 9, 2022, from 12pm until the Celebration of Life at 2pm at Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 125 W. Sycamore St. Zionsville, IN 46077. A private burial will be at Eagle Creek Cemetery, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation be made to the Dementia Society of America, 188 N. Main St. Doylestown, PA 18901.
