Mary "Virginia" Burns: August 2, 1924-December 17, 2020
Mary was born to the late Luke and Margaret Plunket in in Lincoln Pennsylvania. She grew up there with her 6 siblings and graduated from Nanty-Glo H.S. in Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Akron, Ohio shortly after on Bank Court. Virginia met Matthew who had also moved from Terre Haute, Indiana. They were married at Annunciation Church where they met and resided in an apartment on McNaughton Street. Matthew got a job at Firestone Rubber Factory and they moved a year later to the Goodyear Heights where they lived. Mary was employed at Goodyear Tire (1943-1946), Goodrich (1946-1953), Dime Bank(1958-1962). Goodyear Aerospace/Loral (1962-1987) retiring as a programming engineer from Loral on Aug. 1, 1987 with 24 1/2 combined years of service.
Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Matthew ("Junie") Burns, three sisters (Annie Star, Stella Campbell and Dorothy Mikula) and two Brothers (Raymond Plunket and Robert Plunket). She is survived by her son, Phillip (Cindy) Burns of Jackson Township, two grandchildren; Brandon (Michelle) Burns of Jackson Township and Phillip Burns of Canton. She also has one great-grandchild, (Scarlett) who she was always happy to see. Mary also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides working Mary was an avid reader and played euchre with friends. She loved to dance with her husband at church socials and at Meyers Lake Ballroom. There was always a dog to love and care for in the house. She loved her family and cherished the many good times that were shared together. Many thanks to the great care she received at Chapel Hill Retirement Community and Mercy Hospice!
Friends may call on Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.at The Lamiell Funeral Home on 1353 Cleveland Ave. N.W. in Canton, Ohio. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Annunciation Church (Visitation of Mary Parish) 87 Broad Street in Akron. She will be buried alongside her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery.
