Mary Josephine Blair passed away peacefully on April 17, 2022, at the age of 79. She loved the City of Dunedin and was the Dunedin Middle School band director for 18 years. Her passion for music and her commitment to her students led her to be a finalist for Outstanding Educator in 2004. To all who knew her, she was an outstanding educator every year. As an accomplished Saxophonist, she started teaching private saxophone lessons at the age of 17, and in 1983 she graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in musical education and went on to become an elementary school band director.
As a devoted Christian, Mary Jo worshiped as a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Family Parish, and Light of Christ Catholic Church, where she served the Lord and shared her enthusiasm for the gospel with everyone she encountered.
Mary Jo is predeceased by her husband, John Blair; her father, Mark Gillespie; and her mother, Dorothy Gillespie. She is survived by her sister, Pat Cumberland; daughter, Barb Small; son, Mark Blair; grandchildren, Tyler Small, Finley Blair, and Morgen Blair.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 8 from 1-3 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home at 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, FL. There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 9 at 11 am at St Michael the Archangel Church on 2281 at St Rd 580, Clearwater, FL.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dunedin Middle School Band Boosters to establish a memorial scholarship in her name for a Dunedin High School student who plans to major in music education in college.
