Mary Alice (Morgan) Bartz, 68, of Dalton, died Tuesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the wife of David F. Bartz.
Born Jan. 26, 1954, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ann (Kelly) Morgan. A 1971 graduate Abington Heights High School, she received her associate degree from Keystone College in elementary education and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Marywood College. She began her career as the principal organizing educator helping to develop St. Gregory's original Kindergarten. Mary Alice was an educator who nurtured her thousands of students in a motherly manner. She became a teacher for the Abington Heights School District, having taught kindergarten for more than 30 years. She was cherished by the many students she taught at their early ages.
She was a member of Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green, professional teachers' organization.
Mary Alice enjoyed working in the garden and sharing happy times with family and friends. Regarded as a saint, she was one not to complain, as she made the best out of her situation by sharing joyful laughter with others. Mary Alice's sweet gentleness will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are a sister, Katie (Joseph) Gaggiano, Dalton; a nephew, Patrick (Anna) Gaggiano; their sons, Lukas and Charlie Gaggiano, Canton, Mass.; and two stepdaughters, Kenley Bartz (Dan) Stewart, Odessa, Fla.; and Courtney (Scott) Wise, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by the Rev. John M. Lapera, pastor. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. A private cremation will take place by Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, at their onsite crematory.
