Mary Ann Kittell, 90 years old, of Colmesneil passed Monday, May 30, 2022. She died peacefully of natural causes in her home on Frog Pond Lake.
Mary Ann was born to Herman Francis and Ila Lee Walton in Pine Island, TX. Mary Ann graduated from Beaumont High School and attended Lamar College. She married Andrew Earl Hunt, Jr. in 1951. Mary Ann had two sons and one daughter. She divorced in 1972 then married Kenneth Jay Kittell of Beaumont Tx in 1975.
Mary Ann worked at Stedman Paper Company in 1961 then managed the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas for 15 years, growing the one-person office to 15 employees. Mary Ann was awarded congratulations for "Most Efficient and Best Bureau in America". She participated in many political events one of which was sponsored by Senator Tom Collin in Dallas.
Mary Ann formed Lamplighter's Association for theatre actors. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club for over thirty years, and named "Woman of the Year" 1994.
Mary Ann and Ken Kittell retired to Colmesneil, TX on Frog Pond Lake and were essential in forming the first homeowner's property association, and elected President of FPPOA.
Purchased the Wood Fain Theatre in Woodville converting it to a unique entertainment center "The Phoenix." introducing the first electronic games and pizza. Later changed the name to "Opera House" incorporating country, bluegrass and theatre productions as well as an event venue for banquets, fundraisers and weddings 1981-1996.
Surviving Mary Ann is sister, Frances Ellen Wyche, 101 years old, children, Kathryn Eyleen Bergold and Jonnie Andrew Hunt, his wife, Tammy, and stepsons Paul, Winn, and Reagan Kittell and wife Lauri, and stepdaughter Holly Week and husband Kent. She has five grandchildren: four step grandchildren and one great granddaughter, along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Monday, June 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont, TX.
