Marvina Mac Lewis, 80 of Seymour passed away on April 2, 2024. She was born January 12, 1944 in Seymour, Indiana to Alfred J. and Lorraina Louise Waldkoetter Schwartz. She graduated from Seymour Senior High School, class of 1962. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University in 1966 before receiving her Masters degree from Indiana University. She married John M Lewis IV on December 28, 1965 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour. She grew up in Redeemer Church until switching her membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1967.
Marvina was involved in teaching and coaching for many years. Her career involved teaching PE at Salem High School, Jennings County High School and Seymour High School where she also taught Drivers Ed and Health. She also coached girls swimming and girls tennis at Seymour High School, 6th grade at Redding and Jackson Elementary schools and kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran School. She served as Assistant Director at Girls Inc. for nine years.
In her younger years, Marvina played tennis and later in life, she played bridge. She and her husband John played competitive tennis together. She collected creamers and Swarovski glass figurines and enjoyed gardening. She was a 48 year cancer survivor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Lora Jolene Howard. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, John M Lewis, IV of Seymour, son John M (Kristin) Lewis V of Indianapolis, daughter, Suzanne White of The Woodlands, Texas, her sister, Jerretta (Tom) Bullard of Seymour, her brother-in-law, Fred D Lewis of Seymour, as well as six grandchildren: Sidney Marie Howard, Keaton Daniel Stout, Georgia Marie White, Taylor Elizabeth Lewis, John Cooper White and Avery Kristin Lewis.
Friends may visit with Marvina's family from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1 pm Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 605 S. Walnut Street, Seymour with Rev. Dr. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip E. Bloch, Rev. James Rodriguez, Jr. and Rev. William Fredstrom officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given in Marvina's memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Girls Inc. or the American Cancer Society.
