Marvin James McGrady, 64, of Harpers Ferry passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground in Herndon, WV.
Born March 21, 1958 in Akron, OH he was the son of the late Claude McGrady and Thelma Rush McGrady.
James was also known as Merv, Captain Merv, Marvelous Marv, Shady McGrady, Sock, Coach James and Grandpa/Grampie. He always said "call me anything you want, except "late for dinner". James loved his kids and grandsons more than anything. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, dogs, coaching and playing softball and baseball, four wheeling, and riding his old Harley. James had a zest for life and could make anyone laugh with his singing, dancing and jokes.
James was known as the "singing bricklayer" during his many years as a bricklayer, a trade he learned from his father. James also worked for Arlington Public Schools, in the Maintenance Department, for almost 30 years. His outgoing personality and crazy antics will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by one son: Marv "little Merv" McGrady; two daughters: Brandee McGrady and Molly Rivera; six grandsons: Elijah McGrady, Nicholas McGrady, Dylan McGrady, Christian McGrady, Ethan Rivera and Lucas Rivera; three sisters: Debbie Davis, Deana Thorsell and Lisa Greenbacker; and his longtime girlfriend Theresa Thai.
The family received friends 4:00 - 5:00 P. M. and a memorial service followed at 5:00 P. M. Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville, VA.
