Marvin Eugene Hyde, known by his friends and family as "Gene", passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was born on August 17, 1943, in Conroe, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Hyde; his mother, Zephyr Nichols Hyde; his father, William Wesley Hyde; and his brother, Charles Edward Hyde.
Gene is survived by his three children and their families, William Craig Hyde and his wife, Alison of Conroe, Texas, Reesa Ann Ammons and her husband, Christopher of Tomball, Texas, and Wesley Everett Hyde and his wife, Shannon of Gladewater, Texas. Gene is also survived by four grandchildren, William Connor Hyde, his wife, Stacy Marie, and their daughter, Evelyn Jade of Houston, Texas; Mary Alice Hyde of Conroe, Texas; Paige Elizabeth and Zachary Thomas Ammons of Tomball, Texas.
He was a committed patriarch for his immediate and extended family, logging long work hours to support them and himself. He maintained life-long goals that he tirelessly strived to achieve. He was an example of an honest work ethic, which was inherited by his children and grandchildren.
Gene was forever devoted to his wife, supporting and caring for her for more than 60 years. They sailed on numerous cruises throughout the Caribbean and to Alaska after Gene retired from Maverick Pipe in 2004. They always tested their inherent luck on the ships' slot machines during these trips.
His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He prided himself in cultivating healthy and bountiful gardens, sharing his seasonal knowledge reaped from decades of tilling his land. His other pride was rooted in being a father and grandfather, encouraging and guiding his children and grandchildren to marry and foster a family of their own.
Gene's family gives loving thanks to his nurses, Keri, Stacy, and Diane; and his friend and caretaker, Roslyn Henderson, who provided him with excellent care and devotion during the final years of his life.
Gene's legacy is defined by love, honest work, and a belief that family always comes first.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, August 25, 2024, 3 p.m., at Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Gene will be laid to rest with Peggy at Waller Cemetery in Grimes County.
