Marvin was born on October 16, 1941, at the Gall family farm to the late John and Christine (Otremba) Gall. He was the oldest of 14 children. Marvin graduated from Pierz Memorial High School in 1959 at the age of 17. That summer, he worked on a farm in North Dakota, threshing grain with horses. After the harvest, he moved to Minneapolis and secured a job as a machinist at Greasen Manufacturing, where he worked for one and a half years before joining the Army in 1961. During his service, he held the rank of E5 Sergeant in artillery at Fort Sill in Oklahoma and was part of a unit that was prepared to be the first on the ground during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his discharge from the Army, he went back to work at Greasen. On the day that President Kennedy was shot in 1963, Marvin met Kathleen "Kitty" Haberle in Genola, and they have been together ever since. On July 5, 1965, they married and in the spring of 1966 purchased a farm near both of their parent's home farms. Marvin sold his two horses to purchase their first tractor. It was at this farm that Marvin and Kitty raised their four children, Susan, Kimberly, Jason, and Amanda. In 1972, Marvin went to GI School for agriculture. He was a successful, hard-working farmer who strived to be current in farming technology. On Monday's you could see him making stops at local farms picking up cattle and taking them to the sales barn.
Faith and family were always Marvin's priorities. He was an active member of St. Michael's Parish, serving as a Mass server and Eucharist Minister. Marvin served as a Trustee at St. Michael's Parish for 12 and a half years and was a member of the Pierz Town Board for 34 years. Additionally, he was involved with both the Buckman School Board and the Holy Trinity School Board, as well as the Pierz Villa Board. Marvin had been a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Isidore since 1967 and served as a Grand Knight. He was also actively involved in the T.E.C. Program.
In his free time, he loved fishing, bowling (2 - 600 series), golfing, and following all Minnesota professional and college sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. You could often see him wearing his headphones while giving score updates about the Vikings at the Buckman Parish Bazaar.
His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He loved having them at the farm, where he could spend time with them doing chores, such as picking eggs and feeding the cattle. Many wonderful memories were created there with Grandpa, Grandma, and their grandchildren.
Left to honor his memory is his wife of 59 years, Kitty; his son, Jason Gall of Hubbard, Nebraska; his daughters, Susan (Dale) Vogtlin of Little Falls, MN, Kimberly (Tim) Daly of Crystal, MN, Amanda (Gregg) Virnig of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Olivia, Carter and Grace Gall, Mark and Kathleen Daly, and Vanessa (Matthew) Marlow and Josephine Virnig.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine Gall; brothers, Dennis Gall and Ralph Gall; sisters, Doris (Schmidtbauer) Hilfer and Jeannie Thommes; granddaughter, Bridget Daly; and many brothers and sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the Minnesota Veterans Home and Grace Hospice for their wonderful care.
