Marty J. Root, 73, Green Bay passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at a local hospital. Marty was born on May 7, 1949 in Green Bay, the son of the late Donald and Mercedith Root. Marty served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1972. On October 5, 1993 he married the former Mari VanVonderen and the couple enjoyed over 20 years together. Mari preceded him in death on January 1, 2014. Marty had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened his own painting company until health issues forced him to retire. Marty was an artist at heart, he enjoyed painting and sketching.
Marty is survived by his step son: Mike (Julie) Pienta, Luxemburg, WI; and their children: Ariauna, Lucy, Ruby, Ivy, step daughter: Nina (Aaron) Penning, Rochester, MN; and their daughter: Zoey. Marty is further survived by one nephew, Nicholas Root and other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother: Jim Root.
No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones when a service is scheduled. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of Edenbrook Nursing Home for all of the special care and attention shown to Marty.
