Born and raised in Denison, Iowa, where he was a track star, cornet player and singer, Marty passed away April 9, 2022. An enthusiastic University of Iowa Hawkeye, Marty earned his RPh degree and married his college sweetheart Nancy. Marty had a long career as a pharmacist, marketing director at Abbott Labs, and co-founder of Allscripts. He was a long-time resident of Des Plaines and Libertyville, IL before he relocated to sunny FL, where he lived the past 30 years. Always social, and eager to help, Marty was active many years in the Kiwanis Club. He loved camping, sports, traveling, singing, and his many dogs. At his Aston Gardens residence in Tampa, and in his church, Marty continued to sing, participate in "Laugh-In" shows, and take on all comers in his bridge clubs. Marty's personable nature was beloved by his many friends and family. Preceded in death by his wife and devoted companion of almost 67 years, Nancy Anne (Barker) Bretthauer, Martin is survived by his three children, Mark, Cynthia and Scott (Kathy). He will be truly missed by his four adored grandchildren, Brittany, Callie, Jordan and Josh, and great-grandchild Jadine. A Memorial Service for Martin will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1822 E. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst, IL on Sunday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m.
