Ms. Martha Mae Turner, age 87, of Rome, GA, met her Savior on Tues, December 31, 2024, at a local nursing home.
Ms. Turner was born in Floyd County, GA, on July 11, 1937, daughter of the late Herbert Franklin Turner and the late Lola Mae Braden Turner. She was also preceded in death by 2 siblings, Charles Herbert Turner and Patricia Miller. Ms. Turner was a 1955 graduate of Pepperell High School and went on to receive her bachelor's in music from Shorter College and her master's in education from West GA College. She was a teacher for over 30 years, having spent time in Coffee County, Conyers, Florida, Cobb County, before spending the last 14 years teaching in Gordon County from which she retired. Ms. Turner was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.
Ms. Turner was an extremely talented woman. She was an artist through and through and an accomplished musician. Ms. Turner loved reading, writing, as well as playing the piano and organ. She served as the organist and pianist at church whenever she was needed. Ms. Turner was firm in her faith in the Lord and could not be swayed from her beliefs. She was a strong woman who possessed an amazing sense of humor. Ms. Turner loved and lived life to the fullest, but most of all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now rejoicing in his presence for eternity.
Survivors include 3 siblings, Mary Lynn Mathena, Rome, Wesley Turner (Rena), Rome, and Carolyn Abernathy, Coosa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Ms. Turner will be interred at Rome Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1pm until service time at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
