Martha Stavas (Zahoran) went peacefully to heaven on August 20, 2021. Martha was born in Johnstown, Pa. to Frank and Nancy Zahoran (Zima) and was preceded in death by her parents, all 8 of her brothers and sisters, some other extended family members, and her husband, Edward J. Stavas. She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Rychak, son-in-law Wayne Rychak, grandchildren Joshua Rychak and Charity Rychak Delaney, 5 great grandchildren ages 2 to 7, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Martha lived almost all her life on Benshoff Hill until relocating to Florida a few years ago to be with her daughter in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Martha went to school to learn dressmaking and worked for a number of years at Kay Artley dress factory in downtown Johnstown until it closed down. Sewing was Martha's passion, and many members of her family can attest that she was indeed a highly skilled, talented seamstress and needle worker. Martha's large, extended family meant the world to her, including every last sister, brother, niece, nephew, and their families - all were precious in her mind. She was a truly kind, caring, generous and loving person who will be sorely missed by her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and other family. Thank you Mom for letting us enjoy having you in our lives for all these 95 years. We are BLESSED. We love you.
Martha's remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date when her ashes are placed alongside her husband in Grand View cemetery. Prayer requests and donations in her name may be sent to St. Mark's Episcopal Church in downtown Johnstown, 814-535-6787
