Martha Piontkowski, 79, a longtime resident of New Britain, passed away on July 2, 2021 at her home. Born on January 14, 1942, Martha was the daughter of the late Frank and Veronica (Gajek) Piontkowski. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Aetna Life Insurance Company as a supervisor. A woman of strong faith, she was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in New Britain.
After retirement, Martha discovered embroidery and became part of the needlework community of artists. She specialized in thread, canvas and crewel embroidery. Martha crafted many contract pieces for individuals and created many award-winning pieces. She loved being part of the family at Thistle Needlework's in Wethersfield, where she met many dear and longtime friends. As an avid cat lover, she enjoyed the company of her feline friends.
Martha is survived by her brother John F. Piontkowski, and his wife Julie of Moodus, as well as her nieces and nephew, Andrea, Gretchen and Mark.
Graveside services for Martha will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt Street, New Britain. The Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, New Britain is assisting the family. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit: www.duksa.net.
