Martha Nehrings, age 84, of Camp Hill, PA, and formerly of Melbourne Beach, FL, Carlisle, PA, Asheville, NC, and originally of Prospect Park, NJ, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 15, 2022. Born December 15, 1937, in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Aart and Hermina (Broek) Van Houten.
Martha earned her registered nursing certification from Paterson General Hospital's School of Nursing and, while she had dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom for many years, went on to work as a nursing supervisor for The Greater Paterson General Hospital's pediatric unit as well as a home health nurse for Warren County Home Health in New Jersey. She was a wonderful seamstress and a talented artist. Her family enjoys many of her oil and watercolor paintings. Most importantly, Martie loved the Lord deeply and served Him graciously. She demonstrated her witness for over 60 years through her piano playing and singing, teaching Sunday School, Bible Study, and volunteering with ministries everywhere she lived, such as the Women's Chapel Club in Green Pond. Even in her dementia, she loved and comforted all those she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Nehrings, and by her sons, Bryson Yawger and Mark Yawger. Surviving is her daughter, Lori Van Houten Frick and her husband Dennis; her son, Jonathan Yawger and his wife Karil; her grandchildren: Natalie and her husband Caleb, Marcus, Sophia, Ava, Ethan, and Flora; her siblings, Lee Summers and her husband Tom, William Van Houten and his wife Maria, and Ellen Vajas and her husband John, as well as her many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, October 15 at The Green Pond Chapel, 8 Notch Road, Green Pond, NJ.
