Martha Moyer, 93, passed away Aug. 30, in Greensburg. Born in Portland, Martha, known to family and friends as Mert, was the only daughter and middle child of Elbon and May Landess.
Martha graduated from Portland High School in 1950. She married James Moyer in 1953, and they celebrated their 69th anniversary shortly before his death in 2022. A 1971 graduate of Ball State University, she taught business and served as chair of the department at Mississinewa High School. While there, she returned to Ball State and earned two Master's degrees, one in school counseling, and moved from the classroom to the guidance department. Martha retired from education after 19 years.
She is survived by her daughters Kimberly Green of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Kelli (Kevin) Simpkins of Carmel, and her son Kevin (Colleen) Moyer of Perrysburg, OH; her grandchildren Jacob (Julie) Green of Indianapolis, Max (Sarah) Simpkins of Indianapolis, James Moyer of Cincinnati, OH, Sean Moyer of Columbus,OH, and Amanda Green of Columbus; and great-grandchildren Annelise Green, Caraline Green, Kathryn Green, Elias Green, Sydney Fessel, Tyler Fessel, Charlie Jane Simpkins, and Calvin Simpkins. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, her brothers Jerry and Gene Landess, her firstborn grandson Samuel Green, and her son-in-law William Green.
Per Martha's wishes, private graveside services will be held. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg is handling the arrangements.
