Martha Joy Kirksey Senter, at age 79, departed this life on October 13, 2022 unexpectedly and at peace with God and mankind at NMMC after a brief illness. Martha was an Itawamba County native, a beloved Tupelo figure and a heralded public school teacher and icon at Church St. School in Tupelo for over 40 years. Loved by all and respected by her fellow students, Martha was devoted to encouraging her students in the classroom and throughout their educational experience . She never forgot a student's name. The fruits of her spirit were love, joy, longsuffering, kindness, meekness and a genuine love for all God's creation and creatures. A faithful communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Tupelo, Martha will be missed by a grateful family and community of supporters.
Per her personal request, there will be no public service. The family will celebrate a private service at a later date. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends. If you wish to submit remembrances and appreciation for Martha, please e mail them to [email protected].
Martha is survived by her daughter, Nancy Senter Arnett (Shane Allen) of Okinawa, Japan and her son, Patrick Senter of Tupelo; her beloved grandchildren, John Grayson Arnett and Addie Grace Arnett, other close relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Houston Kirksey and Lavelle Chittom Kirksey and her husband, Pat.
