Martha Marlene Hattrick, aged 84, was born 29 November 1937 in Bremerton, Washington. She died 3 May 2022 while in care of St Michael's Hospital in Silverdale, Washington. She lived in Poulsbo, Washington beginning in 1964 and for several years was a resident in the Brookdale Montclair housing in Poulsbo in the interests of safe care. Her parents, Albert J Brooks and Margaret (Nelson) preceded her in death as did her maternal grandparents, Nels Nelson and Martha Evjue. Marlene married William Michael Hattrick 18 May 1957 in Silverdale, Washington.
Marlene attended public schools in Silverdale until the end of her 10th grade year when her parents and his older brother began a Sporting Goods and Hardware Store in Burlington, Washington. She attended Burlington Edison High School, graduating in 1956. She attended one quarter of a year at Central Washington College but left to begin working at Puget Sound Title in Seattle and preparing for marriage. She lived with an aunt in the University District before marriage, on Capitol Hill and in Mount Baker Park as young married and firstly a parent. She was a homemaker in Poulsbo but acted as a playground aide and in 1983 began to work as a teacher's aide in the Special Education program at North Kitsap High School. She retired from that after 18 years.
For many years Marlene was a member of First Lutheran Church, Poulsbo. This included raising up her children in the church and being active in several women's ministries, which were very important in growing her faith. For many years Marlene made lefse and served lutefisk for the annual Lutefisk Dinner at the First Lutheran, connecting with the heritage of the church and greater Poulsbo community. Being around people was a necessary part of her life and she was active with the Sons of Norway. Among other activities Marlene enjoyed Walk and Talk and playing cards with friends, her children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed many travels, especially with her husband.
Marlene is survived by her husband, William M Hattrick at the family home, Poulsbo; their sons, James (Sarah F) Port Ludlow, Washington; John (Camille), Poulsbo; Michael D (Karlene), Garland, Texas and daughter Mary, University Place, Washington. Grandchildren Nathaniel and Cameron, Poulsbo; Noah, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Lydia, Denver, Colorado. Survivors include extended family members Mark Blossom (Cari), Poulsbo; Taresa Boyle (Kevin), Lake Havasu, Arizona; Tiffany Erickson (Bryan) and their son Brody, Arlington, Washington and Michael Blossom, Kingston, Washington. Surviving also, one brother John Brooks, Livermore, California, one brother in-law and two sisters in-law. Also by nieces, nephews and cousins in several US states and in Kongsberg, Norway.
A memorial is planned to begin 2PM 8 June 2022 within a space provided by the Stone Chapel Mortuary with Pastor Kent Shane officiating. A time for refreshments is planned on site. This solemn process is entrusted to the hands of the Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary. In lieu of flowers donations may be considered for Poulsbo First Lutheran Church 18920 4th Ave, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
