Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Harness, 85, of Carthage, Texas will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma with Rev. Mary Lou Coppin officiating. Visitation will be held 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage, Texas.
Mrs. Martha Ann Foster Harness was born September 26, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK. She passed this life October 30, 2021 peacefully at her Carthage, Texas home. Martha was the oldest of two children born to the marriage of R. "Red" Marcalus and Myrtle Omagene Snodgrass Foster. She was raised in Oklahoma City, later graduating from Shawnee High School with the class of 1954. Martha attended Oklahoma State University and married her high school sweetheart Bobby Leon "Bob" Harness, as his Marine Corp Bride, June 21, 1955, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Martha enjoyed reading, international travel, sewing, and quilting, and served as Past President of the Kansas City Mini Mundo women's organization. Martha and Bob retired to Carthage, Texas in 1995 from Roeland Park, Kansas. They became active citizens and members of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. Martha served in the Gideon International Auxiliary. and sponsored a Laotian refugee family aa well as housing a foreign exchange student. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary James Foster; and a granddaughter, Brooke Alexandria Taylor.
Mrs. Harness is survived by her loving husband, Bob Harness of Carthage; children, Deborah Jean LaBron and husband Doyle Aarron of Belton, Terese Suzanne Taylor and husband Trey of Melissa, Robert Leon Harness of Ft. Smith, AR; grandchildren, Blaine Thomas LaBron, Tiffany Taylor Davis and husband Timothy, and Austin Hoyt Taylor; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Stacey Hillis, James Hillis, Scott Hillis, Blaine LaBron, Austin Taylor, and Terry Pitchford. The family suggest memorials in her memory to the Footprints In The Sand Foundation, 808 Ray St., Carthage, TX 75633.
