Martha Hurley Cailor, 73, of Hudson, Ohio, died December 8,2021 surrounded by loving friends and cared for by Summa Hospice staff. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on December 9, 1947 to Richard and Elizabeth Hurley (Tucker). Martha was a loving daughter and friend who will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. She graduated from Hudson High School and then graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a B.A. Degree in English. She became the President of her college sorority Alpha Gamma Delta. Martha enjoyed travel and especially some international travel with college friends. She joined the family business after declining a job offer in New York from William F. Buckley, Jr. who founded the National Review which was an inspiration to the conservatism of the 1980s. Remaining in Ohio, Martha became the third-generation owner and CEO of W. L. Tucker Construction Supply Company of Cuyahoga Falls. Under her leadership Tucker Supply has become Northeast Ohio's largest supplier of masonry materials and equipment. A private person who enjoyed working behind the scenes Martha loved to read from her large library. Some of her favorites: Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, James Thurber, My World --- and Welcome to it as well as books by Eric Hoffer (a long shoreman) and Lawrence Ferlinghetti (beat poetry). Martha was an intellectual if the moment required it! She enjoyed cooking with her mother Elizabeth, spending time with friends and enjoying a variety of family pets which over her lifetime included eight Golden Retrievers. Her most favorite Golden was named Scout after a main character in To Kill a Mockingbird. Always a supporter of organizations she believed in, she gave generously to Golden Retrievers In Need (GRIN), the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC), the Hudson Community Foundation, Hudson Light the Green and the Hudson Garden Club. Martha had many other interests including: gardening, dining out locally, being a member of Walden Country Club and collecting unusual home furnishings. Once asked how to describe her design style, she said "early Ernie Kovacs!" In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in Martha's memory to Golden Retrievers In Need (www.grinrescue.org>) or to the Humane Society of Summit County (www.summithumane.org ). Friends can celebrate Martha's life from 3:00PM-7:00PM on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home (19 E. Main St., Hudson, OH 44236).
