Martha Julia (Hay) Brewster, age 86, passed away on July 27, 2022, at her home in Varnville, SC.
Mrs. Brewster was born January 29, 1936, in Mocksville, NC, to the late Carroll Gordon Hay and Dorothy Adams Hay, and moved to Hampton County with her family at a young age. She was a graduate of Varnville High School.
Mrs. Brewster was a talented seamstress, working in Charleston for many years at The Bandbox and Anne's Dress Shop, as well as sewing for private clients from near and far. She was a loving mother to her two daughters, devoted to her family, and a generous woman known for her kindness.
She married David R. Brewster in Charleston, SC, on January 24, 1989, and retired to the family home in Varnville, SC. Mrs. Brewster was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, giving her time and talents to the church in many ways, and was an active member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Crocketville, SC.
Martha is survived by her husband David, her daughters Rebecca Overcash Gollmar of Hillsborough, NC, and her husband Peter, and Judith Overcash Acres of Walterboro, SC, and her husband David; and three grandchildren, Robert Gollmar of Durham, NC, and his wife Sarabeth, Oz Gollmar of Durham, NC, and Grace Gollmar of Austin, TX. Mrs. Brewster is also survived by her siblings James William Hay of Ellabelle, GA, Gail Larisey of Hampton, SC, and Patricia Woody of Powell, TN. Mrs. Brewster was predeceased by brothers Carroll G. Hay, Jr, and Plan G. Hay; and sisters Dorothy H. Miley, Judy H. Williams, Joan H. Murden, Helen M. Hay, Clara H. Williams, and Linda H. Stanley.
Funeral services will be 4 P.M. Sunday at Harmony Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly, with burial in the Crocketville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday prior to the services at Peeples- Rhoden Funeral Home, located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton, beginning at 2:30 P.M.
