Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Marlene was proceeded in death by her mother - Myrtle Posten-Sayre, her father - Ronald Harry Sayre, and her sister - Wayona Hall.
Marlene grew up in Parkersburg where she was a member of the Brownies and spent many years performing in choirs.
After she was married, Marlene moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia with her husband, where she became a mother with the birth of their daughter.
Marlene was a member of Duff Street United Methodist Church. There she sang soprano in the choir and was a member of the Circle of Friends ladies circle. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 573 Ladies Auxilary and served as president for two terms.
