Marlene K. Meyer was born January 4, 1942 at Deadwood, SD to Andrew and Mildred (Johnson) Meyer. She was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1960. Following graduation she was a child care provider.
She then entered Yankton State Hospital facilities in 1966. Years later in 1985 she resided in the Ability Building Services facility. She enjoyed her life to the fullest. One special childhood memory was with cousin Delores (Gates) Forrest having a summer visit on the farm with Marlene's cousins Irene and Ike Rans.
Family was always close to Marlene's heart. As she would listen to her records, a favorite pastime, she would express her love for family through writing letters, hundreds of beautiful letters. Along with family she also wrote to SD Governors Kneip, Mickelson and Rounds. Her platform was the hours that the hardworking staff were required to put in a day. She received responses and the staff was so appreciative of her kindness. The love was mutual between Marlene and the staff. She was special to them and she considered them family.
Another wonderful part of her life was when her only niece, Cindy Vaughn and Cindy's son Nathanael from Washington state, would come to visit.
Marlene strong faith made her a happy, fulfilled person. She entered Sister James Nursing Home in 2017, where she was loved and cared for by the staff. She returned this love many times over.
Her life will be remembered by her niece Cindy Vaughn and Cindy's son Nathanael Vaughn, also many special cousins, health care workers and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Glenn and Dewey and her nephew Kenneth Meyer.
