The funeral service for Marlene Koepsell, 82, Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Pierre, SD, will be 10:00am, Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Compton officiating. The service will be live streamed on our website. Burial will be at 1:30pm Friday, at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Marlene died Monday, January 11, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital. Marlene Eleanor Mills was born April 11, 1938, to Henry and Josephine (Van Wert) Mills on the Pine Ridge Reservation. She grew up and attended school there. After graduating from high school, Marlene earned a secretarial degree in North Dakota. After school, she moved to Pierre, SD. She worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the federal building. Marlene met Lowell Koepsell there and they were united in marriage on April 8, 1967, in Pierre. They made their home in Pierre before moving to Rosebud for ten years. They then moved to Wolf Point, MT, for several years and Lower Brule, SD, for four years before returning to Pierre. In 2018, Marlene and Lowell moved to Aberdeen to be closer to family. Marlene and Lowell attended Community Bible Church in Pierre for many years. Marlene babysat for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and was always trying new dishes. She liked joining her friends for exercise at Primrose. Over the years, they had many pet dogs and cats. Marlene was a generous woman who donated to the humane society and Disabled Veterans of America. Her faith was very important to her and she always prayed for her family. Marlene was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Grateful for having shared Marlene's life are her husband: Lowell; sons: Max (Virginia) Koepsell and Barry Koepsell; her grandchildren: Charlee and Maci Koepsell and Christian Koepsell; nieces: Debra Brewer and Anita Brewer, and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding Marlene in death are her parents; one grandson Benjamin Koepsell; and her siblings: Glessnor Brewer, Sylvester 'Pesto' Mills, Henrietta Templeton, George 'Skipper' Mills, Ronnie Mills, Roger Mills, and an infant sister. www.spitzerfuneralhome.com
