At the age of 102, Markaleeta Stevenson, passed away into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 1, 2023, after suffering from dementia for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry J. Stevenson in 2013 of DeSoto, Texas and by her daughter, Barbara Stevenson in 2021 of Richardson, Texas. She was the last living family member born to Grover C. & Lenora Ogelsby Mathews of Dallas, Texas who passed in the 1960's along with her brother & sisters, G.C. Jr., Eleanor and Evelyn. Markaleeta was survived by her son, Jay K. Stevenson of Dallas, Texas and her grandchildren, Kevin (Toia) & Katie Stevenson and Kelly (Cody) Hicks and numerous great grandchildren, Kailyn, Wade, Elliot & Carson, Weston, Kadrian and Adrian. Markaleeta had been a homemaker, office worker & bookkeeper as well as an artist. She loved Texas Hill Country scenery and flowers. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Mom was a long time faithful member at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas. Markaleeta was born in Dallas, Texas on December 12, 1920 and grew up in Dallas and North Texas through the Great Depression and WWII and then met the love of her life, Harry and they were married in August, 1947, in Dallas, Texas and lived in several Texas cities until Harry's passing. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the special care and attention provided to Markaleeta by the caregivers & staff at The Family's Choice in Richardson, Texas, and the staff with Max Serve Hospice and also to the many friends and countless others who she knew and was involved with over her long wonderful lifetime. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Cliff Temple Baptist Church (clifftemple.org), Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas (alz.org/dallasnetexas), The Association of Former Students of Texas A & M (aggienetwork.com) or any charity of your choice. Visitation will be held, Monday, March 13, 2023, at Jeter & Son Funeral Home at 4830 W. Illinois Ave. Dallas Texas between 4 - 6 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Cliff Temple Baptist Church 125 Sunset Ave. Dallas, Texas at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. She will be buried at the DFW National Cemetery with her late husband at a later time.
