Mark Virant passed away peacefully in Arlington on November 19, 2021, at home surrounded by family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and coach, Mark was a great role model, true friend, and genuinely kind man who took great interest in those he met.
Born to Ann and Aloysius Virant in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mark grew up in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory School before graduating from Texas A&M University in 1976.
Shortly after college, he met Jeanine at a CPA review course; the two married in 1978, making Arlington home for the next 43 years.
Those years were full: Mark enjoyed a long and successful career in Oil & Gas as a Landman while he and Jeanine raised three boys. During that time, Mark rarely missed an opportunity to support and encourage people when the time arose. This took the form of coaching, supporting others' careers, giving Grandma Sue a ride, and countless road trips to spend time with those he loved, regardless of the activity at hand.
One of Mark's greatest joys was time with family and friends at the lake. He loved telling a story about his original boat, Murphy's Law, and pointing out a "plum-peaceful" moment or sunset. It didn't matter that he wasn't a fisherman and was exceptionally mediocre while pulling a skier; as a humble host, he always made everyone feel welcome, excited to come back to the lake again.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife of 43 years; Jeanine Virant, his three sons; Matthew Virant (Colleen), Chris Virant, and Steve Virant (Haley), three grandchildren; Clare, Ben, and Sam, along with another granddaughter on the way, and his three sisters; Tracy Virant, Sue Wunderlick, and Laura Einspanier.
Services will be held on December 3, 2021, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas, with visitation at 1:30 p.m., words of remembrance at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
