Mark Alan McCoy passed on or before December 5, 2021 in Houston, Texas. Mark was 66. He was born on June 16, 1954 in Evansville, Indiana and was preceded in death by his parents, W. Harold and A. Ellen McCoy, and his sister Jan Ellen Boerner in 1993. He is survived by his brother Lester B. McCoy of The Woodlands, Texas, his niece Jessica Boerner Montgomery of Evansville, Indiana and nephew Joshua Boerner of Louisville, Kentucky, Ryan McCoy of The Woodlands, Texas and cousins, grand nieces and nephews.
Mark grew up earning college money with his brother by raising, breaking, showing and selling American Saddle Bred as well as other breeds of horses. Mark had a knack for things mechanical growing up on a farm. His friends would always gather in the barn working on their mini-bikes, go-karts, and sting-ray bicycles. He was an avid bicyclist entering in a number of events regularly in the Houston area including the MS 150 Texas race.
A 1972 graduate of William Harrison High School in Evansville, he then went on to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana graduating in 1975 with a bachelor and master's degree in civil engineering from Purdue in 1978. A member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity while attending Purdue.
He was a designer of offshore drilling platforms for various companies in Houston including Exxon, bp, KBR, McDermott, and others designing new platforms and redesigning existing rigs including managing of construction and launch. He truly loved his work and would spend long hours pursuing it. Mark never married or had children but was a lover of all things collectable.
