Marjorie E. Smith, 61, of Longmeadow, MA, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020 after a brief illness. Born on December 26, 1959, Margie was a daughter of the late Norman and Janice Epstein. Raised in Longmeadow, she was a graduate of Longmeadow High School in 1978 and the Isenburg School of Management at UMass in 1982. Margie worked as an accountant and was the Director of Human Resources and Office Manager at MP CPAs in Springfield, MA for the last thirteen years. Margie lent her time and talent as a volunteer for many organizations. When her children were young she was President of the Center School PTO and a charter member of the Longmeadow Public Schools District Learning Team. Dearest to her heart was the Springfield Jewish Community Center, where she assumed numerous leadership roles culminating in her becoming its first female President. She also enjoyed reading, playing Mahjong, doing puzzles, lunching with friends, and planning many trips to Disney World, her "Happy Place." In addition to her many professional and personal accomplishments, Margie's most prized titles were Wife, Mother and Nana. She is survived by her loving husband of thirty-eight years, Donald A. Smith; her daughter Alexandra (Nick) Dayton and son Daniel (Stephanie Aguado) Smith. She also leaves her grandchildren Theo and Penelope Smith; sisters Laura (Bill) Lebow, Phyllis (Steve) Sensenig, Susan (Lenny) Shaker; nephew Jonathan (Julia) Shaker, and nieces Dana and Lauren Shaker. She will be greatly missed by several dear cousins, her husband's extensive family, and many close friends. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many doctors and nurses at Baystate Medical Center who cared for Margie with kindness and compassion. Services will be private. A celebration of Margie's life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Margie's name to the Springfield JCC, 1160 Dickinson St., Springfield, MA 01108. The Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
