Marjorie-Anne Rose Luthiger
Help us celebrate Marjorie-Anne! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Marjorie-Anne.
The world lost a beloved mother, Marjorie-Anne Rose Luthiger on January 7, 2022. Marji courageously fought a 3-year battle with cancer but it never stopped her from giving out the best hugs. It would be wrong to say that Marji lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined and full of hope. Marji stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit for Marji. She was a "tank". We were blessed by her grace and strength.
Marji was born in Moosejaw Saskatchewan, Canada on February 13 1946 ultimately becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States. She was the second of four children and claims to have learned everything she knew from her own loving parents, Walter and Marjorie Cedar. Marji was influenced by her large family with many aunts and uncles, always giving time to others and she incorporated that into her motherhood. In 1967, she met the love of her life, William "Bill" and married on December 30, 1969. They have four children; Dana, Erinn, Aimee and her one and only son, William "Willie". They made their home in Simi Valley CA until July 1977 when they headed north to Anacortes WA where they have resided ever since. She was a devoted mother and wife - always placing others before herself, cherishing precious time with those who were lucky enough to have spent time with her.
Marji had a memory like no other. She could recall specifics within her lifetime without hesitation or error. She always enjoyed telling stories about her beloved family. Her most treasured moments were spent adoring and caring for her grandchildren. Marji was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, Oma & Gigi. Her family was her life. She was her grandkids biggest fan! She observed nearly every game, recital and lesson for her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching all the sporting events throughout the years, weekend trips to Victoria and of course visits to the beach. Marji and Bill loved to travel to Hawaii, that was "their" happy place, especially Kauai. She shared that happy place with her own children and grandchildren making special memories. She always engaged in every activity, every conversation even when she didn't feel her best. Marji was everyone's friend. She could hold any conversation. She remembered names... faces and greeted those like they were her own. She had spunk and was the glue to her family. There is no greater gift than love. And she loved so deeply.
Marji worked as a receptionist at Island Hospital, Skagit Urgent Care and Anacortes Family Medicine where she built lifetime friendships with colleagues and patients. Her colleagues knew her as warm hearted, an advocate, always there to cheer one up with her hugs. She retired in 2010 to graciously take on her next role as the Bestest Oma ever! Her grandchildren were her Joy. They were spoiled. They were adored. They were her Sunshine. Oma gave the best hugs. If one was lucky, three squeezes in your hand was her "I love you".
Marji was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. It wasn't uncommon to find Marji sporting sparkles of blue & green on Blue Friday. Whether it was hat, earrings, bracelet, shirt or even shoes. She was wearing it proud. She was also a long-time member and Sister to those in Beta Sigma Phi and a great support to friends in Weight Watchers. She was raised in a Christian home, baptized and spent countless hours volunteering at Awanas while her children were young. It was at work and these affiliations where Marji formed lifetime friendships with her dear friends Sue Keller, Suzanne Harris and Linda White-Canfield to name a few. She lost herself in good romance novels and enjoyed movies, playing card games and spending time with family and friends.
She will be sorely missed by her special four-legged companion "Bella" and survived by her daughters Dana-Marie (Scott) Zacher; Erinn (Todd) Welliver; Aimee (Rodd) Frantz; and son, Willie (Brianna) Luthiger, Grandchildren; Christopher (Sarah), Colton, Matthew, Nolan, Kapricia, Bjorn, Niklas, Rielly & Adelynne and Great Grandchildren: Ava, Emma & Moses, all from Anacortes. Her brother, Kirk and sister, Nora of Victoria BC, sister-in-law Charlotte of Simi Valley, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Bill (2018), her parents Walter & Marjorie, brother Garry and sister-in-law Cindy.
Our family would like to extend our sincere thank you to Hospice of the Northwest for making her final days comfortable and peaceful, along with the Drs & staff at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Dr. Kojouri and staff at Skagit Regional Health Cancer Care Center, Amanda with Visiting Angels - You truly are an "Angel" and to Nancy & Phil who were extraordinary neighbors.
Friends are invited to say a final goodbye to Marji at A Celebration of Life which will be held in the Spring. An announcement will be posted at a later date.
Love you to the Moon and Back!
