Marion H. (Szawlowski) Zgrodnik passed away after a long illness on February 24, 2021 at her home in Hatfield with her loving family and closest friends by her side. She was born in Northampton at the Henry Street home of her parents Agnes (Baj) and Chester Szawlowski, Sr. on April 5, 1947. The youngest of six children, she grew up working on the family potato farm, then located on Bates Street, Northampton from childhood through her college days. She was very close to her parents, taking care of them in their declining years and making their life complete.
A graduate of Northampton High and Westfield State College, she taught second grade at parochial school in Holyoke then substitute taught in Hatfield schools before taking on her mother's job as bookkeeper at the family's farm, Szawlowski Potato Farms in Hatfield. She married George Zgrodnik Jr. on February 1972. She was predeceased by her parents, by her beloved siblings, sister Helen Von Flatern, brothers John and Stanley Szawlowski and sisters-in-law Joni and Mary Ellen Szawlowski, brother-in-law Leonard Von Flatern, nephew John Szawlowski, Jr. and niece Lisa Szawlowski Leon.
Survivors include her husband, her sons Jeffrey and Gregory Zgrodnik, daughter-in-law Jaime, and her precious grand-baby, Evelyn Mae, her brother Chester Szawlowski, brother Frank Szawlowski and his wife Nancy, brother-in-law Thomas Zgrodnik and his wife Susan, and sister-in-law Doris Szawlowski, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as grand-dogs Lucy, Sadie and Squash.
Marion loved being a mother and grandmother and was a wonderful sister and aunt. Marion loved theorem painting, jewelry making, lunching with her friend Carol, and Shopping with a capital S. She was an avid reader and talented baker. Happy memories were made at her winter home in Daytona, Florida and on her annual summer vacations to Ogunquit, ME. She loved animals and they loved her. A friend to all who met her, she was greatly admired for her grace and strength in adversity as well as for all the good times she made for others.

Animal Shelter. The family wishes to express thanks to her dear friends Kathy Arduini and Sara Cox, doctor and beloved friend Dr. Tashanna K. Myers, medical staff at Baystate Medical, as well as the hospice nurses caring for her in her last days. Calling hours will be held at CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME, 173 North Street, Northampton on Wednesday, March 3 from 4-6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 11 School Street, Hatfield.
