100, of Cranston and Bonnet Shores, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022 at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence, Rhode Island. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas Cardi, Sr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Albert Ronzio and Adeline (Martellucci) Ronzio-Gouin and sister of the late Virginia Palumbo of Narragansett and sister-in-law of the late John Palumbo.
Marion was the mother of Ron and his wife Maria Cardi, Pete and his wife Diana Cardi, and the late Nicholas Cardi Jr. and the late Sandra Zompa; mother-in-law of Arthur Zompa, Sr. and Julia “Judy” Young Cardi. Marion is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Lisa Zompa Dupuis and husband Dennis, Nicholas Cardi, III and his wife Stephanie, Rachel Cardi, Michael Cardi, Victoria Cardi and Isabella Cardi and great grandchild, Garrett Dupuis. She was also predeceased by her grandson Arthur Zompa, Jr.
For our Mom, instilling positive family values was everything. She loved cooking, knitting, crocheting and traveling with family and sometimes just her and her husband. When he passed in 1985, she decided to enroll in URI’s golf program to get a little better at the game. Then, she found her love for Bridge with friends at home and Bridge Clubs throughout Rhode Island, even traveling to Alaska and beyond on her journey to become an amateur grandmaster.
Some who didn’t know Mom personally, knew her through the (non-paid) TV commercial work her sons dragged her into. Just like everyone from her generation, Mom was real – on and off camera. She was always fun, feisty, extremely honest, humble and up for any challenge. Most commercials were filmed in her Cranston home where she lived for 69+ years, because her homemade pizza was always waiting. She was mom-in-chief to her children and like every nana, loved to let her grandchildren and great grandchild do what her kids were never allowed to.
The day after her 100th birthday, Reverend Verdelotti of St. Mark Church, honored Mom at morning Mass with a wonderful 100th year prayer and led the congregation in a Happy Birthday song for her. Mom loved it.
We could continue writing about our Mom but she would cut us short here, as she always did, when making a point, by saying “What else can I say”.
