DEMETRIOU, Marina On Saturday, May 28, 2022, Marina Demetriou, 85, of Naples, FL, died unexpectedly in North Collier Hospital, with her husband Steve at her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late Philip Pavles and Nellie Sommese Pavles. Marina grew up in New York City and graduated from High School of Music & Art. At the age of 17 years old, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall as an opera singer. She furthered her education by attending New York University. Marina was a very gifted pianist and vocalist. She had accomplished not only speaking Greek and Italian, but was able to share the gift of music vocally in those languages and serenaded her family at holiday gatherings. On June 30, 1955 Marina married Savvas "Steve" Demetriou. They had met at a Greek event in New York and it was love at first sight. Steve and Marina lived and raised their family in Winthrop, MA. While living in Winthrop, Marina worked as the Director of Personnel for Lord & Taylor in Boston. After retiring to Naples, FL in 1990, Marina sang for several years with the prestigious Naples Philharmonic Chorus. Surviving are her husband, of 66 years, Steve Demetriou; son Steve (Dana) Demetriou of Dallas, TX; 2 daughters, Christina Demetriou of South Yarmouth, MA and Nelia Demetriou of Sarasota, FL; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, the Honorable Judge Harriett George and Diana (James) Obbard. Friends are welcome on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 7100 Airport Pulling Road, Naples, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Entombment will take place at Naples Memorial Gardens.
