Marilyn Joan Van Blaricom Yelvington passed away in Bell Canyon, CA on March 31, 2023 at the age of 88, surrounded by her family.
Marilyn was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan but fled the snow to live in Daytona Beach, FL for over 50 years. She raised three children, earned an A.A. degree and worked in the hotel industry and as a school bus driver before retiring to California.
Marilyn had an insatiable curiosity and an appetite for new experiences. She loved to travel and was able to see much of the world, from Australia to Norway, Nicaragua, Alaska, Singapore, Hawaii, Europe and more. She played softball and bowled, held offices in PTA, Toastmistress, Community Theater, and her labor union. She loved fine dining and hotels, theater and museums. She was an ardent feminist all her life.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Donna Benedict and by her children Greg Yelvington, Cynthia Yelvington and Vanessa Chandler as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Ralph (Buddy) Yelvington and her sister Carolyn Swix.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodland Hills Woman's Club, P.O. Box 105, Woodland Hills, CA 91365, which will direct it to a charity assisting victims of sexual or domestic assault.
