Marilyn Terry Mason Schwamkrug of Midland passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the age of 80. Marilyn was born on June 7, 1940 to Weyman Bryant Mason and Jessie Mae Terry Mason in Abilene, Texas. The family moved to Ballinger, Texas in 1943, where Marilyn graduated from Ballinger High School and worked in the family's floral and crafts shop. Marilyn returned to Abilene to attend McMurry College (now McMurry University), where she was the founding president of Theta Chi Lambda women's social club. After graduation, she taught public school in Abilene where she married Brian Schwamkrug in 1966.
The family settled in Midland in 1975, where Marilyn became a bookkeeper for Wright E. Cowden Sr. She continued to work for the Cowden family until her death. Marilyn was a devoted supporter of her children's endeavors. Besides attending countless martial arts tournaments, dance recitals, and concerts, she served as Treasurer for the Robert E. Lee High School Mighty Rebel Band for three years, helping plan and fundraise for trips to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade and in Governor George W. Bush's inaugural parade.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Lisa Schwamkrug of Dallas; her son Kyle Schwamkrug of Austin; her brother Russell Mason, and wife Gloria of Lorenzo, and their children Kefalari and Melissia; her sister Melinda Mason, of Fort Worth; her sister Martha Bailey and husband Roger, of San Angelo, and their children Jay and Brittany; and many others whom she loved as family.
A funeral service is planned for Monday, February 22, 2021 at 1pm in the chapel of Ellis Funeral Home, with viewing from 11am to 1pm the same day. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland. Condolences may be made at: www.ellisfunerals.com.
