Marilyn Joyce Peyton, 90, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on May 3, 2020, from Covid pneumonia. Marilyn was born on April 8, 1930, in Danville Indiana, to Carol and Charles Ralph Walter.
Her childhood in Danville was filled with music. She played the accordion in a family band, The Walter Sisters, with Jill on the organ and Shirley on the marimba.
Marilyn spent 4 years at Earlham College where she made life-long friends and graduated in 1952.
She married her high school sweetheart, George Mitchell, (deceased 1977), and embarked on an adventurous life, living in many places while raising her children, Gregg and Cheryl. Throughout her life she was a teacher: formally as a high school home economics teacher and an interior design teacher at a technical school, and informally teaching quilting, sewing, and cooking to her children, grandchildren, and friends.
After the death of her second husband, Alton Ben Peyton, she reconnected with a good friend from her years at Earlham College, Harold Clary. Marilyn and Harold spent the next 17 years together, enjoying life, traveling and nurturing a family now full of many kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Their large family was the joy and focus of their lives.
Marilyn is remembered as a mother, grammie, sister, and friend, a generous, artistic creator. She enjoyed knitting, making quilts, clothes, hats, flower arrangements, and meals for friends and family.
Marilyn was loved by her family, including Harold Clary; her sisters - Jill (Max), Shirley (John) and their children; her own children - Cheryl (Tom) and Gregg (Cinda); her step-children- Joe (Carrie), Holly (Randy), Jon (Allison); her grandchildren - Molly (Josue), Sara (Amy) and George; her step-grandchildren - Chris (Rachel), Daniel (Lyssa), Susan (Mark), Sarah (Brayden), Havy (Amylee), Jon (Rebecca), David, Elisha (Mitchell), Stephen (Karen), Sharon (Derek), Natalie (Ethan), Nathan, Nicolas, Levi, Juli, Nate, and Olivia (Mark); and her great grandchildren - Parker, Freya, and Wyatt and her step-great grandchildren Sophrona, Madison, Blake, Hayzel, Titus, Micah, Felcia, Brooklyn, Mason, Nolan, Gabriel
