Marilyn Winifred Nichols, 86, of New Castle, formerly of Connersville, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Henry Community Health. She was born on April 21, 1934 in Connersville, a daughter of the late Paul and Edna (Jones) Nichols. Marilyn graduated in 1952 from Connersville High School and later attended Indiana University Training School for Nurses from 1952 - 1954. She worked at the offices of Dr. J. G. Bledsoe and Dr. Ray McKee as well as the New Castle State Hospital and Henry County Memorial Hospital. Marilyn enrolled in courses for Dietary Management and worked for Lincoln Manor and later Heritage House as Dietary Manager before retiring in 2004. She was also an accomplished seamstress and co-owned and operated the "Sewin Shack" in Connersville with her daughter, Dorthea. She also taught upholstery classes at New Castle Vocational School and Ivy Tech in Knightstown and Muncie. Marilyn enjoyed making memory bears and her time as a 4-H leader in Henry County and as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Debra (Michael) Callaway, Diana Rose, Darlene (Rick) Manthei, Dorthea (Ryan) Stephen and Brian (Kim) Davis; grandchildren, Jeremy Callaway, Christopher (Christa) Callaway, Amanda (Ferry) Netler, Shannon Bernhardt, Kimberly Campbell, Winifred Bray, John Paul Stotler, Ashley (Drew) Gragg, Toni Stephen, April (Curtis) Earlywine, Shea Sample, Dustin (Marie) Davis; great-grandchildren, James, Christopher, Kagan, Adaline and Garner Callaway, Kees and Annika Netler, Anna and Ellie Bernhardt, Alexander Bray, Grant Davis, John Luke Stotler, Nicholai, Serenity, Jacob and Jace Gragg, Colin Green, Harper Sizemore, Averyann Earlywine, Elijah, Finley, Madox, Ellie and Cameron; a brother, Stanley Nichols and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Nichols. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 19, 2021 at Sproles Family Funeral Home, 2400 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362. Burial will follow at South Mound West Lawn Addition.
