Marilyn Jean Knutson (n?e Murphy), 82, passed away September 20, 2020 at her home of 56 years in Woodbridge, Virginia, with her family at her side.
Marilyn was born January 24, 1938 in Des Moines, IA to Raymond and Rita Murphy. She met her husband of 62 years, Robert Knutson, while attending Falls Church High School in Virginia, where she was a member of the varsity softball team. She earned her teaching certificate from Longwood College and taught at various Catholic schools, including St. John's in McLean and St. Leo's in Fairfax, and St. Margaret's in Woodbridge. In addition to being a homemaker and raising six children, Marilyn worked at Bowl America in Woodbridge and then as a secretary at the Central Intelligence Agency in McLean, Virginia.
Marilyn played recreational softball in her younger years, was an avid bowler for much of her life, and enjoyed traveling and watching Washington Nationals baseball in her retirement.
Mrs. Knutson is survived by her husband, Robert; sister Colleen; daughter, Teresa and her husband Ralph, and sons, Raymond (Scott), Richard, Roger and his wife Kayla, Randy and Robert (Michael) and his wife Cindy; seven grandchildren, Nick, Amber, Alivia, Kimberly, Averi, Christopher and Nathan; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Ally, Shaun and Stella.
Arrangements are with Miller Funeral Home in Woodbridge. A funeral service in memory of Marilyn Knutson will be held on Tuesday, September 29 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Woodbridge, followed by an interment at Fairfax Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
