Marigny Lanier passed away on January 4, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Robert Maris, the mother of Jack and Peter Maris, a sister, and a loyal friend. Marigny was born in Dallas, TX to Dr. Jack and Valera Lanier. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1968, then went on to receive a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. After UT, she became a trailblazer at the SMU School of Law, where she was one of the first female graduates in 1975. It was there that Marigny met her husband, Robert Maris. After law school, she worked for the Department of Labor; from there, she and Robert established their law practice, Maris Lanier, where Marigny served as trial counsel for many claims before state and federal courts. Marigny was a mother figure, not only to her beloved sons, Jack and Peter, but also to the extended Lanier family. She organized and hosted many beautiful family holiday celebrations, and enjoyed spending holidays with the Lanier clan at the family lakehouse. Marigny had a big heart, a keen intellect, and a clever sense of humor. She was a fan of fine art and all music - from opera to rock. She was naturally athletic, playing tennis, golf, horseback riding, and hiking in Big Bend National Park and Colorado. Marigny is survived by her husband, Robert Maris; sons Jack Maris, Peter Maris and spouse, Israel Arizona; sister Camille Riddick and spouse, Kirk; sister Lisa Lanier; brother Jeff Lanier and spouse Chrisanne; brother Richard Lanier and spouse, Janet; brother Stephen Lanier and spouse, Tammie, and eight nieces and nephews.
