Marie Murray, nee Marisol Laborda Berzal, age 82, died peacefully on January 23, 2022 in Roswell, Ga. Marisol was born and raised in Madrid, Spain and moved to the United States when she met and married the love of her life, Joe Murray. They were married for 61 years and traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East for her husband's military career.
Marisol was born to the late Natividad Berzal Enebral and Manuel Laborda Claramonte on March 13, 1939. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, and her siblings V?ctor Pedro Laborda, Jose? Manuel Laborda, Rosario Laborda, and Alicia Laborda.
Her memory will be cherished by her three daughters Susan (Ty) Harlow in Atlanta, Ga, Sandra (Mark) Alwerdt in Charlotte, NC, and Sylvia (John Nearhouse) Murray in Phoenix, AZ. Her granddaughters Kristen Alwerdt in Denver, CO, and Michelle (Kenneth) Hawkins in Ft. Irwin, CA and grandson Zach Lynch in Charlottesville, VA. Her sisters Mari Pepa Laborda (Ramo?n Lledo?) in Barcelona, Spain and Maribel Laborda of Madrid, Spain. Her sister-in-law Donna (Murray) Jackson of Mercedes, TX, along with numerous nieces and nephews in Spain and Texas.
Marisol supported her husband's military career and made all his worldwide transfers a huge adventure for her daughters. Because of her tremendous curiosity, her family assimilated themselves soaking up the local culture when they lived abroad for eleven years in Germany, Spain, and Iran. Marisol actively volunteered at every military base winning awards for her contributions that supported the mission. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland - European Division, which was celebrated at Heidelberg Castle in Germany. Marisol had amazing creative skills baking intricate wedding cakes, sewing her daughter's stunning wedding dresses, and grandson's heirloom silk baptism gown. She was a master gardener and loved creating flower arrangements. Her cooking skills were legendary, and she enjoyed dropping off meals to her doctor's office and cooking for her husband's volunteer organizations.
Marie was an active member of Holy Comforter Catholic Church in Charlottesville, VA. She was an active volunteer with PACEM and Charlottesville Lion Lioness Club, in addition, she assisted in the Homeless Shelter weekly, read to children weekly at a local Charlottesville elementary school, and was a translator for the battered women's shelter. She was a long-time member of the Charlottesville Spanish Club. She really enjoyed her relationships and the activities of the club, which kept her connected to her culture. Marisol brought a lot of beauty and support to her family, friends, and community making the world a much better place. She will be greatly missed.
She will be inurned with her husband, Joe, at Arlington National Cemetery.
