85 years old, transitioned to her next journey on July 9, 2021. She was born on October 6, 1935 in Lambert, Mississippi to Alfred Leroy Wimberly and Fannie Belle Cox. Marie became a Christian at a young age and led her family to the Nazarene church. She leaves behind a daughter, Cathy Sanford and son-in-law Michael Hoffman of Collierville, TN; a daughter, Tammy Laxton of Memphis, TN; and her twin brother Timothy Laxton and daughter-in-law Donna Laxton of Bartlett, TN. Also grieving her life and loss are grandchildren, Marcus Sanford, Megan Laxton, and James Michael Hoffman, all of Memphis, TN, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Bobby Laxton. Marie was a hard worker, often working multiple jobs, or walking lengthy distances to work in an effort to support her family. Her proudest accomplishment was the establishment and ownership of the baby store, Mommy and Me. She maintained a strong love and devotion to her family and extended church family, New Hope Church of the Nazarene. There, she served as a Sunday School teacher, missions director, ladies ministries director, church steward and she performed countless hours of outreach to the church community and neighborhood. Her childhood dream was to be a missionary to the Cape Verde Islands and although that dream was not attained, she was a missionary in every sense of the word. She donated money to build two water wells in Africa to provide vital water where none existed. She had a beautiful smile and was a kind, simple person. Well done, good and faithful servant. A visitation for Marie will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
We love you, Mom, and will cherish you forever.
