Mrs. Marie Nix Brant, 91, of Brunson, died Friday evening, August 27, 2021 in the Williston Health and Rehab Facility in Williston, SC.
Mrs. Brant was born June 27, 1930 in Brunson, a daughter of the late Emma Chesser and John H. Nix, Sr. She was married to the late Drexel M. Brant. She retired from the Hampton County Health Department and was a member of Brunson Baptist Church where she had been part of the Women's Missionary Union and had been active in all phases of youth work. She was on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society and worked with the American Diabetes Association. Mrs. Brant was active in the Chapter #65 Order of Eastern Star in Fairfax where she held many District and State Offices. She was a sponsor of the "I Care" Program at Brunson Elementary School, which is a program that stresses academic excellence, and served on the School Improvement Council. She was former President of both the Brunson Civic Council and the Brunson Book and Music Club. In 1971 she was recognized by the Mayor of Brunson as a Community Leader of America and was honored by the Brunson Lions Club as "Citizen of the Year" in 1994-1995. She had lived at Laurel Baye since July of 2012 where she was President of the Resident Council. She loved to play bingo and encouraged the other residents to participate in all the activities. She was known by the CNA's, nurses and other leaders as a great listener. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her son, Drexel Nix Brant (Daisy) of Summerton, SC, Donald Hayne Brant (Susan) of Rincon, GA and Gerald Oliver Brant of Hampton, SC; daughter, Susan Brant Nuno (Alberto) of Williston, SC; grandchildren, Drex, Brian, Heather, Brandon, Helen, Ashlynn, Hayne, Melanie, Christine, Lorena and McKayla; and countless great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Brunson Baptist Church, 63 South Manker Street in Brunson, conducted by Rev. R.P. Hodge with burial in the Bowers Cemetery located on Bowers Lane between Hampton and Brunson.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM Wednesday morning at the Church prior to the service. Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton is assisting the family with arrangements.
