Marian McConnico Harrel was born to Johnny B and Kate Clark McConnico at Sinton Hospital on November 28, 1927. After 94 years, she passed peacefully on February 20, 2022. Raised in Gregory, Texas she graduated as salutatorian in 1944. Marian attended Texas A & I University where she was elected Lantana Queen of 1948 and Aggie Sweetheart of 1949 and graduated with degrees in home economics and education. Teaching a total of 27 years in Gregory, Robstown and Ricardo, she spent the majority of her career at Ricardo Elementary teaching second grade. She is fondly remembered by many of her former students as a teacher who made a significant impact on their lives. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Zeta Tau Alpha as well as the Kingsville Women's Club, the Evening Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church. Marian dedicated her life to her community and her children during their growing up years, serving Flato Elementary PTA, Camp Fire Girls as a leader, and toting her children to many sports practices and games. An avid sports fan, she followed the Houston Astros, the San Antonio Spurs and Novak Djokovic with great enthusiasm. Marian was married to John Nolan Harrel, Sr. for 25 years and they had three children. She is survived by her children Nancy (John) Moore of Stuttgart, Arkansas, John (Cathy) Harrel of Corpus Christi, Texas and Sally (Brian) Andrusin of Keller, Texas. Her grandchildren Matthew Moore (fianc? Lauren Stringer), Taylor Moore (Whitney), Clark Moore (Sarah), Beth Porter (Adam), Alexandra Harrel, Joseph Harrel, Danielle Harrel (fianc? Brendon Tschoepe), Abigail Andrusin, Ben Andrusin and Maggie Harrel and her eleven great grandchildren were sources of great pride and joy.
Marian is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses great appreciation to those who lovingly and patiently cared for her during her later years, especially the staff at the Viera Assisted Living, A-Med Hospice and Dr. Mike Winnie.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 12:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
