Maria Zwack, of Stephentown, New York, passed away on April 19, 2022. Born in 1932 in the village of Bakonypoloske in Hungary, she was one of seven children of Frank and Ida Mohos, now deceased.
She married Frank Zwack, who predeceased her on May 16, 2019, and during their 68 year marriage they raised two sons, Henry F. Zwack (Laura) and Frank J. Zwack (Deborah). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Bridget M. Roberts (Brian), F. Joseph Zwack (Amanda), Mark J. Zwack, Michael F. Zwack and John H. Zwack (Joella), and five great-grandchildren, Joseph M. Zwack, Malorie Zinc, Natalie M. Roberts, Benjamin H. Zwack and Elliott J. Zwack. Maria is also survived by her sisters Elza M. Anderson and Julianne Mayer, and brother Frank Mohos (Patricia). Her brother Henry Mayer and sisters Elizabeth Rudolph and Ida Weise are predeceased. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews who she especially loved.
Growing up in Hungary, and as part of the post WWII reconstruction of Europe, Maria accompanied her parents and siblings as they were forced to flee, first to Austria and then to Germany, where she completed schooling, was employed in a Library and then at an electronics factory, and where she met her husband Frank. They married, Maria traveled first to the U.S. with her parents, sisters and brother, sailing on the troop ship USS Harry Taylor, with Frank following shortly after, residing in the Bronx and then moving to Stephentown in 1957. The years following, she and her husband Frank farmed, built a home, and with their sons began the family business, Zwack, Inc., into a manufacturing business shipping products throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and also municipal highway equipment throughout New England. Shortly after moving to Stephentown, Maria joined the St. Joseph Rosary Altar Society, later the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department "Fire Belles", and Youth Commission. She took special pride in St. Joseph's Church and serving on its finance committee. A special moment for Maria would be celebrating Christmas Eve with family and friends, or double deck pinochle, or taking the grandchildren along on a cruise. She loved to garden, needle point and rug hook.
The family will always remember and thank the incredible staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor for providing her with love and care during her continuing journey.
