Mission - Maria M. Guerra, 85, went to be with lord on Monday, May 30, 2022. Mary was the proud owner of the legendary M & H Beauty Shop in Mission, Texas. Mary opened her business on Thursday, August 28, 1958, with business partner and close friend Hilda Pena. Mary started her business at the family home where her mother gave her one room to start her career, 64 years later Mary was still running M & H beauty shop out of the same home, albeit with a few more rooms. M & H eventually grew to incorporate the entire house and the little shop began to do business. And they've been doing it with the same people for many years.Some of the beauticians that have been employed at the salon have been there for more than 30 years. Genevive Escatolia has been with M & H for 46 years. We give thanks to Genevive for being with our mother through out all years. Lupita Gomez worked for the business for 35 years. Other beauticians that worked for more than 20 years were Yolanda Cavazos, Pamela Rodriguez, and Esmeralda Cantu. Other beauticians that have also been employed are Estella Sandoval and Minerva Cardenas.Mary was preceded in death by her parents Ana Rangel Martinez and Lauro Martinez. Her late husband Ildefonso (Poncho) Guerra, Sr.; her sister Elvia M. Leal; a granddaughter Krystal Herrera; a daughter in law Bertha Alicia; and a brother in law Pedro Villarreal. She is survived by her two sons Jorge Guerra and Ildefonso (Maria Luisa) Guerra Jr. Mary has 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sisters Mila M. Villarreal, and Humbelina (Enrique) Cerda. She also has 5 neices and 3 nephews.Serving as pallbearers will be Jorge Guerra Jr., Jake Guerra, Christian Morales, Nicholas Morales, Khristian Cortinas, and Daniel Morales. Honorary pallbearers will be Lupe Trevino, Pete Villarreal III, Joel Angel Gonzalez, Ruben Aguirre, Mauricio De la Cruz, and Adalberto Rodriguez.The family of Maria M. Guerra wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Harlingen Medical Center, Dr. Bielfeld, (surgeon), Dr. Evans (cardiologist) and the nursing staff, Solara hospital physicians and nursing staff, Genevive Escatolia, Belia Salas, Lydia Gonzalez, Angie Pompa, Roberto Lopez, Nela Leal, Maribel Rangel, Mariana Guerra, and the Calaveras our black and grey family.Viewing will be held Sunday, June 5th at Ric Brown Funeral Home, Mission, TX. from 4pm-9pm with a rosary to be recited at 6pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on June 6th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by burial at Rio Grande State Veterans Cemetery.
