Mission - Maria del Socorro Flores, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 19, 2022.
She was born in Monterrey, Mexico on June 27, 1935, to Olivia Garza Montemayor and Isaac de los Santos Gonzalez. She married Jose Ricardo "Pepe" Flores Jr. in 1959. After their marriage, they moved to the United States and had two daughters, Veronica Imelda, and Connie Olivia Flores. Maria never left her husband's side until his passing in 1990.
Maria and her beloved husband felt privileged to have served the community of Mission at Flores Funeral Home, as he was the last of the 3rd generation to head up the funeral home and the firm's first embalmer. Maria was always very proud to acknowledge that she would hand sew pillows, as well as the casket linings, for all caskets before the funeral home started working with the major casket manufacturers. Their daughters followed their father's footsteps and became involved in the family business. Veronica as funeral director and embalmer, and Connie as CEO and President.
Maria's first thought was always to serve others, especially those she loved the most. She was the best mother to her daughters, devoting her life to their care, and was always very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As her daughters, we would like to say how much we love her and how much she will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jose Ricardo "Pepe" Flores Jr.; grandson, Onesimo "Nesi" Garza III; parents, Olivia Garza Montemayor and Isaac de los Santos Gonzalez.
Maria is survived by her two daughters, Veronica Imelda Flores and Connie Olivia Flores (Ricardo) Renteria; grandchildren, Gina Marie, Lizette Marie, Aaron Alec, Nicolas, Jimena; great-grandchildren Victoria Elisa, Alexander Mario, and Michael Isaac; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was also a loving Nana to Sylvia, Eddie and Veronica Magallan, who grew up alongside the family.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2022, from 2 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary at Flores Funeral Home in Mission. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.
