Maria DiDino Corsetti, 87, of Meriden, wife of the late Bernard Corsetti, entered into eternal life on March 27, 2021.
She was born in Arce, Frosinone, the Kingdom of Italy, on February 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Luigi and Anita Mastricola DiDino. At a young age, she lost both her parents, and was raised by her late aunt and stepmother, Francesca, along with her siblings: the late Francesca DiDino Ricci (Antonio); Bernard (Irma) DiDino; and Anita DiDino DiDuca (wife of the late Antonio DiDuca). She was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Arce, and a deep Catholic spirituality was an integral part of her life. While growing up in the ancestral home in the country, she developed a strong love of family and a joy for nature, especially plants and flowers. She experienced many unspeakable hardships and deprivations during World War II, yet her faith in God and in the goodness of others sustained her during these times. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1954, though sadly her older sister Francesca had to remain in Italy, because she had reached the age of majority. Arriving in the United States, she settled briefly in Canton, Ohio, and then for a long period of time in Newton, Massachusetts, where she met and married Bernard Corsetti in 1955. In 1967, she resettled in Meriden, and resided in the city for the remainder of her life. She proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1965, and strove to be a good member of her neighborhood, community, city, and parish, St. Rose of Lima. She actively contributed to many charitable organizations, served as a blood donor for many years, helped her neighbors, and always had a kind word to say about everyone. Wherever she went, her joyful attitude and friendly nature would immediately gain her many friends who loved her dearly. She attained a lead inspector position at International Silver in Meriden, where she immensely enjoyed her work, and then retired from AGC. For the last 54 years, she was a devoted parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, and was a fixture in their pews every weekend for Mass. Above all else, she loved and was committed to her family -- proving to be a true exemplar of the Catholic faith -- and always thought about them before ever thinking about herself. In her younger years, she had her family over every weekend without fail for lovingly prepared meals. She enjoyed keeping her home organized and immaculate, and was a skilled seamstress, cook, baker, gardener, and avid follower of the news. We thank God that she was lively and energetic up until the very end.
She is survived by her children, Anita (Anthony) Cundari and Luciano (Gail) Corsetti; her grandchildren, who meant the world to her: Christine (Jamie) DiSalvo, Michael Corsetti, Michelle (Matt) Hutchins, and Matthew Corsetti; her great-grandchildren, Marcus and Silas DiSalvo and Juliette and Wyatt Hutchins; and a special niece, Daniela (Angelo) Boccia, all of whom will miss her terribly. In addition to her siblings Bernard (Irma) DiDino and Anita DiDino DiDuca, she is also survived by a brother-in-law and his wife, Ralph and Mimi Corsetti; a brother-in-law, Antonio Ricci; numerous nieces and nephews, and very many good friends who will miss her company. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her beloved sister Francesca DiDino Ricci in 2019; her sister-in-law Giulia Corsetti, and Giulia's husband Donato Corsetti. Our family has lost its shining light. "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom; kindly instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, too, praises her: 'Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all'" (Proverbs 31:25-29).
