Texas Woman's University, following in her mother's footsteps as an educator with a degree in
Library Science. She spent her years as a librarian at San Isidro ISD. She was well respected as an
educator in empowering students to broaden their horizons through learning and exploring. She
also took younger teachers under her wing, such as Father Roy Snipes who sought her advice as he
navigated the waters as a first year teacher in San Isidro. Maria Isabel was also known for her
cooking and baking skills. Since, San Isidro has no fast food restaurants, she made every meal for
her 6 men from scratch. They had a favorite dish?Chicken and Dumplings. She passed on her
recipe to her daughter-in-laws. She was very involved in church activities as well as with her
sorority, Alpha Omega Rho. Maria Isabel was known for her kindness and treating others as she
would like to be treated. She was a strong, God fearing woman. She was a living example of what
Christ came to this earth to teach us?love, forgiveness and compassion. Maria Isabel had a stroke
15 years ago which left her unable to produce coherent words and sentences, yet she could recite
every word of the Rosary. The last words Maria Isabel heard as she left her earthly vessel was her
family praying the Rosary as they surrounded her bed. Maria Isabel will be dearly missed and will
remain forever in our hearts.
